“I grew up being physical. I didn’t have to be, I wanted to be.”
He describes it as a need in life, like eating and drinking. Stacii Samidin feels the need to be surrounded in threatening, risky situations. After being the subject of violence for years, he decided to take a step back by becoming the observer of violence and threat. Stacii is a documentary photographer of so called societies or gangs. By becoming part of their daily lives, he gets the chance to capture the world behind the masks of the stereotypical images of these gangs.
By building up trust and loyalty within these gangs, he can explore their confrontational environments, but also their everyday habits, inner circle and routines. The boundary between being the objective photographer and being one of them becomes thin. But what is good and what is bad? You decide for yourself with these sincere images of the unknown world of gangs.
